So for this work i went back to working with plaster but i tried to think of how i could make a more subtle change to my studio wall. I rounded off the corner but in a way that would relate to my ideas about traces. I left the texture kind of ruff so it would catch the light in an interesting way.
PHASE 3: Final work
As I'm interested in making changes to an environment through installation i decided to create a whole new area that's changed from its original form. I think this work is successful because when inside you feel like your in a new space, in a different studio. Its also a public space making others interact with its form as well.
PHASE 3: Final work
I decided with this work that i wanted to do something completely new. By creating a subtle change in colour the light now activates the space differently and may also go unnoticed. This work changes not only the light colour but how it now reflect onto the surrounding environment.
PHASE 3: Final work
For this work i reused some recycled materials to activate a small space. It goes back to one of my original ideas in which i make small changes to an environment that could go unseen.
PHASE 3:
With this work i found this already cut piece of wood down in the 3D lads and painted and installed it onto the wall. it breaks the solidness of pain white wall and reacts to the light by highlighting its form. I think that this work is successful in the way in which the light helps to enhance its effect. From a distance it looks like part of the wall has been pulled forward and that it is one seamless piece.
PHASE 3:
When taking down the works i have made with plaster i became interested in how the remains of the work fell to the ground and shattered on the floor. This work highlighted one of my earlier ideas in which i was thinking about the recycling and reusing of materials and how they can activate a space without purpose.
PHASE 3:
Most of my ideas and works come through making and experimenting with materials and spaces. The works and how they turn out are unknown to me when i begin to make them and change as the process progresses and i run into trouble with some materials.
PHASE 3:
The main idea that i think is most successful in my work is making shapes and objects become part of there surroundings. Installing a new element to a ready made area that is made from a new material.
PHASE 2:
For this work i went back to working with plaster. I did not smooth out the plaster as i am interested in the trace of a persons touch. This work is less successful in my own opinion as the change to the environment is too structured and seems forced in the sense that it feels very painterly.
PHASE 2:
Following from my last work i looked around the studio to see what i could insert into an already made object. I'm very interested in working with other peoples materials that they are discarding. The idea of reusing and recycling is strong in this work, as the chair and bean bag balls are not mine originally.
PHASE 2:
When i took the pins out they left a indent that opened a new idea of moving into something already there instead of on top. There is also a strong link to traces when i re-look at this work. How works made in the past leave marks of a human presence.
PHASE 2:
When i pealed the ridge off the wall it activated the space in a new way. It looks like the wall itself is pealing and the shapes of the plaster react really well with the light.
MID YEAR ASSESMENT:
For mid year i made a wall size ridge that went straight down the middle of my studio wall. I enjoy working with plaster and think that it blends into the wall making it easily missed. I really like the idea of some works going unnoticed or not being recognized as a work. Unfortunately i lost my documentation of this work so I'm only writing about it. The feedback i got from our critique was positive and i think that this work successfully displayed my ideas about changing an already existing space in a subtle way.
PHASE 2:
With this work i developed from my phase one idea of using pins. I increased the scale to create a larger effect. From different angels this work looks very different. I'm interested in making the viewer move around and interact with the work. From afar the pins look like a painted line but as you move closer more details come into light.
PAHSE 2:
Starting to develop the idea of making small changes to the environment.
I’m still very interested in working with light and shadows. An important idea i an interested in is the relationship between object and space.
FOYER INSTALLATION:
Most of my works have a strong link with time. They are temporary and
last for only a moment. They interact with the object itself and the
area around. I install my work then take them down, leaving only the photo documentation as evidence of the artwork being made.
FOYER INSTALLATION:
Another installation where i worked with shadowing an all really permanent object in the given space. This time i worked on a larger scale. Shadow works that interacts with objects, space and time. These works become temporary as the sun moves the shadow moves changing the original copy. I think this idea would be more successful with set lighting that didn't move.
FOYER INSTALLATION:
In this work i created a new way in which something that already exists in a space interacts with its surroundings.
PHASE 1:
Another work in which i have changed my studio wall in a small way. The material used was plaster to make a small ledge. I think this work was successful as it displayed one of my main ideas in which i create an environment change, making the viewer experience the studio wall in a new way.
PHASE 1:
In my works i wanted to use a lot of different materials. For phase one i did a bunch small test to see what materials and ideas i thought were successful. This work i think was semi successful. As a test i got to see how the pins created shadows that could only been seen from some angels. The scale of this work is what i think was unsuccessful.
PHASE 1:
Another idea that interests me is using material that are traditionally used to fix an environment (to perfect), then using this material to imperfect an area. For this idea i used plaster which usually is used to repair or mend damaged walls but I've used it to create something completely new. A new way of looking and interacting with the area.
PHASE 1:
I began by making small changes to an objects environment. I am very interested in the idea of changing something or somewhere in a very subtle way that may go unnoticed.
One idea I’m working with is an objects relationship with light and how that light can be dramatized to create a greater change.
